Small Games, Big Heart

Let's start then...

I've always found joy in creating games more than just talking about them. While I can spend hours discussing game design in the right setting, those are rarely workshops, company-wide presentations or event talks. Recently diagnosed with autism, I now see why that was. That’s why I prefer sharing my thoughts through a smaller, more personal medium. I really hope this blog can be that space for me.

I could write a humorous blog about how AAA development can be frustrating (because it really can be), or share ideas for using your unique skills, like your autistic strengths, to make positive contributions in game development. But what truly feels right to me is focusing on creating small games, which can be incredibly rewarding.

Making small games has always been a bit intimidating for me, and I’m not entirely sure why. I’ve created many tiny games, usually within a day or two—just simple prototypes of silly ideas that I could finish quickly before getting bogged down by the boring parts. Still, sometimes even thinking about starting a new one can feel overwhelming. Instead of excitement and curiosity about the “what ifs,” I get hit with doubts and questions. Will it be fun? Did I waste my time? Will I struggle with technical challenges? Taking that first step is often the hardest part. If you’re like me, I hope I can invite you on this journey, and together we’ll take that step forward - just like Sam and Frodo, making that first step into the unknown. Let’s give that a try and see what exciting adventure awaits us! (Luckily, creating small games is like a little adventure that hopefully lets you get home in time for dinner!)
